Mt. Gox Moves $1B in Bitcoin, Raising Payout Speculation

Mt. Gox, the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange, has made another large Bitcoin transfer, moving 11,501 BTC in its third major transaction this month. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence reported that 893 BTC, worth approximately $78 million, was sent to a Mt. Gox cold wallet, while another 10,608 BTC, worth $929 million, was transferred to a different wallet.
Earlier this month, Mt. Gox had already moved 12,000 BTC on March 6 and another 11,833 BTC on March 11. Some of these funds ended up on Bitstamp, a crypto exchange, raising speculation that more transfers may follow. Currently, Mt. Gox still holds about 35,000 BTC, valued at roughly $3.1 billion.
Many believe these movements signal that long-awaited creditor payouts are approaching. Mt. Gox collapsed in 2014 after losing 850,000 BTC in a massive hack, leading to bankruptcy proceedings. While creditors can receive payments in Bitcoin, delays have persisted, with a new repayment deadline set for October 31, 2025.
