Morgan Stanley notified its 15,000 advisers in a memo that they could offer some of their clients the opportunity to buy BlackRock Inc.'s iShares Bitcoin Trust, Bloomberg reported. Only clients with a net worth of at least $1.5 million, a high risk tolerance and an interest in investing in speculative assets could be recommended.
Morgan Stanley's decision could inform other banks that are wary of digital assets. Since the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reluctantly approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January, the category has exceeded expectations for both inflows and asset size.
BlackRock's IBIT has amassed nearly $22 billion in assets since inception, while Fidelity's FBTC has attracted $11 billion. U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have netted nearly $18 billion in inflows since their launch, marking a record-breaking debut for the fund category. In July, the SEC approved the issuance of ETFs holding Ether。
