Polyhedra Network has officially released the first set of benchmarks in Proof Arena , a cutting-edge platform for comparing zero-knowledge provers. This marks a major step forward for zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology, which plays a vital role in improving security and efficiency in decentralized applications. To view the complete benchmark check out the post on the Polyhedra blog.

What is Proof Arena?

Proof Arena is an innovative benchmarking platform that enables developers to test and compare their zero-knowledge prover implementations. By evaluating metrics such as proof generation time, verification time, peak memory usage, and proof size, the platform offers key insights into how different provers perform under various conditions. These metrics allow developers to make informed choices about which prover best suits their specific use cases, whether it's for real-time applications, resource-constrained environments, or high-throughput systems.

Key Adoption and Collaboration

Since its launch, Proof Arena has seen rapid adoption, with industry leaders like Polygon, Linea, and StarkWare submitting solutions for the Plonky3, GNARK, and Stwo provers. Additionally, leading academics, including Stanford Professor Dan Boneh and UC Berkeley professor Dawn Song , have praised the platform for its comprehensive and dynamic benchmarking capabilities.

“Proof Arena provides a long-awaited tool to compare different ZK provers on different tasks,” Professor Boneh shared. “Proof Arena updates every time a new prover version is released, and moreover, new provers can be easily added. This keeps the comparison current and up-to-date with the latest developments in the field."

As a public good, Proof Arena will operate as an objective platform for zero-knowledge proof benchmarking. Contributions and feedback from the universities, research institutions, and industry participants are appreciated and will be used to improve the platform.

First Benchmark Results

The initial benchmarks focus on a computational problem involving Keccak256 hashes, a widely-used cryptographic function in blockchain development. Among the notable results, Polyhedra’s Expander prover outshined others in proof generation time and peak memory usage, while Plonky3 excelled in verification speed. GNARK, meanwhile, delivered the smallest proof sizes, making it ideal for data-intensive applications.

Why This Matters for Developers

With real-time performance data now available, developers can better optimize their applications, improving user experience through faster processing and reduced costs. The collaborative environment fostered by Proof Arena also promises to drive innovation and accelerate the adoption of ZKP technology across the web3 space.

For developers interested in exploring the future of zero-knowledge technology, the full benchmarks and platform are live on the Proof Arena website. Join us in revolutionizing secure, scalable decentralized applications!
