The US Congress, currently dominated by Republicans, has appointed lawmakers who support cryptocurrency to key positions in the legislature. The House of Representatives Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence is now filled with pro-crypto legislators. However, it remains to be seen if common-sense legislation for cryptocurrencies can overcome partisan gridlock, despite the crucial role played by crypto lobbies and political action committees in funding campaigns in 2020. Representative Tom Emmer advocates for policies that empower everyday Americans to control their financial futures and believes that clear guidance for crypto businesses can help everyone confidently engage with this revolutionary technology. Congress' first priorities regarding crypto are to pass comprehensive market structure and stablecoin legislation, with stablecoins having more bipartisan support. However, major changes pushed by the crypto industry may take a long time and may not look exactly as proponents expect.
