Musk's government efficiency department has gained access to the US Treasury payment system
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal cited by Jinse Finance, sources said that the US Treasury has agreed to allow Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to enter a payment system that distributes trillions of dollars in benefits, subsidies, and tax refunds to Americans each year, typically managed by career civil servants. Treasury Secretary Yellen approved the move. The Treasury's payment system is one of the US government's main financial arteries, and any interruption in its operation could lead to far-reaching economic chaos. Former Treasury officials said that it is unusual for political appointees to be involved in managing payment networks, as the network includes a strict protocol to ensure the security and privacy of payment transactions. It is currently unclear how DOGE representatives intend to use their access to the payment system. Sources said that DOGE representatives will not have direct authority to stop individual payments or make other changes, and their access will be "read-only." Yellen approved the arrangement on the condition that DOGE representatives' activities must be recorded and monitored. The source said that DOGE representatives intend to review the overall efficiency of the payment system.
