Super USDT launched to boost OP Superchain liquidity

Chainlink (CRYPTO:LINK), Hyperlane, and Velodrome have collaborated to launch Super USDT, an interoperable token designed for the OP Superchain ecosystem.

This initiative aims to address liquidity fragmentation and improve transaction efficiency for the USDT (CRYPTO:USDT) stablecoin across multiple blockchain networks.

Super USDT is backed 1:1 with native USDT on Celo (CERYPTO:CELO) and utilises Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and Hyperlane for secure cross-chain transfers.

Mento Labs supports the project by offering feeless swaps into USDT on Celo through the Mento Protocol.

The goal is to provide seamless USDT access across the Superchain, removing the need for individual blockchains to deploy bridged versions of the token.

According to Celo co-founder Rene Reinsberg, the fragmentation of bridged USDT is "at odds with Optimism's (CRYPTO:OP) vision for a unified, interoperable collective that benefits from shared liquidity."

Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, stated that Super USDT makes it possible to "bring USDT anywhere on any Optimism chain."

Super USDT's architecture supports future upgrades, including integration with native Superchain interoperability standards via ERC-7802 and potential direct minting and redemption capabilities with Tether.

Alexander, a contributor at Velodrome, noted Velodrome's excitement to support the launch of Super USDT as the primary liquidity hub of the Superchain.

Super USDT allows users to move USDT between networks without handling multiple versions of the same stablecoin.

Its introduction improves transfer efficiency and reduces transaction costs.
